About JD BYOUS

Photographer, writer, and historian JD Byous has been a professional photographer for fifty years. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism/photojournalism and a master’s degree in history. Living in Savannah, Georgia, for thirty years gave him an intimate knowledge of Savannah’s Historic District and an opportunity to photograph Savannah and the Southeast.

During his career, his photographs and writing appeared in The New York Times, Der Spiegel, Paris Match, The Associated Press, Savannah Morning News, Georgia Backroads, and more. His book, History’s Way, Along Savannah’s Riverfront, is available on Amazon.com and details the history of River Street and the Eastern Wharves.

For seven years, he was a consulting historian for the Trustees’ Garden renovation project, the first British crown-sanctioned botanical garden in the New World, located in the Old Fort District.

When he isn’t researching the history of a location, he is probably photographing nature, people, and architecture found around the Hostess City of the South.
